Ancient Epic Poetry: Homer, Apollonius, Virgil reprinted with a chapter on the Gilgamesh Poems 313pp Bolchazy-Carducci (Wauconda IL 2006)

This reprint of Ancient Epic Poetry contains a chapter on the Sumerian collection of poetic texts narrating the Gilgamesh story.  These texts, sometimes mistakenly called 'the epic of Gilgamesh' form an important background to the Homeric Iliad and Odyssey, indeed some scholars believe that in their oral form they drifted through story telling circles westward and became part of the texture of the Homeric epic performance world.  While nothing I write is a revelation I have gathered together as best I could the information which helps making an informed guess about their relationship to the later Greek language poems.
